The Heart of Virginia Free clinic is a volunteer organization dedicated to the belief that everyone should have access to basic health care services. The idea for this clinic was born from a vision of concerned healthcare professionals and other community leaders in 2009. With much hard work, the Heart of Virginia Free Clinic was incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2010, and in April 2011, opened its doors to our first patients.

The mission of the Heart of Virginia Free Clinic is to provide quality, non-emergent, primary medical care to the uninsured, who do not qualify for Medicare, Medicaid, or other types of insurances. Our patients are working members of our communities, but do not have the necessary means to obtain basic health care. Often they must choose between buying medications or paying for food and providing for their family. We provide care to those qualified residents living in Prince Edward and surrounding counties.

Patients served in the clinic typically have one or more chronic illnesses requiring supervision and medications. Our vision is to improve the health of our patients and by doing so, improving the health of our community. Patients who regain their health and become more knowledgeable about managing their illnesses will become more productive.
